MusicBreak: Presenting D’Banj’s first epic fail.

It’s definitely not Don Jazzy again.

True, “Oliver Twist” has made its debut on the Billboard UK Charts - at #9. But c’mon D’Banj. C’mon.

[We do have to thank you though: We now know what a migraine feels like. And to think that it happened within the first minute of this track. Gold star.]

This, we have to admit, is a “leaked” track. Although with Kanye West’s/G.O.O.D. Music’s track record as regards “leaked” tracks, you can understand why we added the quotation marks around “leaked”.

“Go down, go down, go down…”

In living up to his “Entertainer” tag, D’Banj gets half a star on this one. Out of 7 stars. Nothing in typical hilarious D’Banj fashion, and the entire track has less content than the chorus in many a previous Kokomasta track.

If their split was anything less than amicable, Don Jazzy and his new stable, Mavin Records, must be grinning silly.

We just had to do it again:

“Go down, go down, go down…”

MusicBreak: D’Banj with a rousing welcome in the UK.

So in an earlier post, we showed you this video of the KokoMasta at Plumsted Manor School dancing to “Oliver Twist” with a  number of beautiful possibly not-yet-legal girls.

What we didn’t show you was the welcome he got the first time he walked in.

This comment. This comment.

MusicBreak: D’Banj teaching UK high school students how to Oliver Twist.

With the Nigerian superstar’s single soaring up the Billboard UK Charts, D’Banj swung by Plumsted (insert appropriate wordplay here) Manor School to a proper celebrity reception - I’m talking screams, autographs, undergarments flung his way and the customary Illuminati sacrifice.

Sample this: D’Banj and a section of the girls dancing to his smash single, as the rest fuel them with energised chants.

From security guard to this.

Not bad at all.

“Lebete! Lebete lebete!”

[Whatever it means.]

“What do you mean ‘Illuminati’, @marcusolang?”

Really? I mention undergarments and all you notice is that? C’mon.

Breaking New Music: Naeto C, “Tony Montana.”

As once mentioned, it could just be a Naija thing, this ability to get you singing along even when you haven’t the slightest clue what they are talking about.

Nonetheless, Naeto C has released a new track [It’s just HOURS old at this point], although one may wonder whether there could be other factors behind the timing of this release.

To be precise: This release is right on the back of Wizkid’s “Baddest Boy.”

Tied to that is the fact that both tracks play on “bad boy” element.

Too much of the reading between the lines? Maybe.

Still: Tune!

Breaking New Music: Wizkid, “Baddest Boy” (ft. Skales).

Calm down, don’t fling the dictionary his way. Put the dictionary down. Now slowly step away. Slooooowly. Good.

So this track is merely HOURS fresh, allegedly “leaked”. Could be true, considering the fact that all the copies I’ve come by skip at 1.09.

The 22-year-old Naija superstar [who also appeared in MTV’s “Shuga II: Love, Sex and Money”] works with Empire Mates Entertainment (EME) stablemate Skales on this one.

Catchy tune, but I still don’t have a final verdict on “Baddest Boy”.

*thinking hard*

Naeto C: “I Gentle.”

‘It’s Illuminati! It’s an Illuminati video!’

No it’s not. Sit down, be quiet and enjoy the music, you paranoid psycho.

Now that that’s out of the way.

With speculation rife that the holder of a masters degree in Energy Studies (University of Dundee, specializing in Energy Economics) is set to release an album within the second quarter of this year, a lot of attention is being directed his way.

And it seems he won’t be one to disappoint.

In classic Naeto C style (classic Nigerian style, some would argue), Mr. Chikwe delivers a rather catchy hook to a track that has all the makings of a smash hit - an expectation it’s already living up to. [Although I haven’t the slightest clue why as at the time of this post, it’s only at 60,642 hits on the official Naeto C YouTube channel.]

“Nothing is as important as education, and the youth need someone who is educated and who has been there to tell them that.  It’s not all about the fame, cars, money and women that they perceive someone to have and which is very often not the case.”

             - Naetochukwu Chikwe, on deciding to follow through with his education.

Of note though, is the director of this video: No, not Clarence Peters, as many have screamed my way. Rather, a London-based chap named Christopher, but please refer to him as SpaceshipC [which happens to be his handle on Twitter as well]. And he doesn’t disappoint either: It’s a crisp video, and the choice to go black-and-white, slick.

Summary: This is my jam!

  1. Three models in this video: Leesh Donowa, Lamie, Zainab. So who among those is the one that joins the party at 2.23? Can she be found? Asking for a friend, of course.
  2. He’s got a spanking new one, just HOURS old right now, called “Tony Montana”. And it’s hook already has me: Omo I bad o, bad pass Tony Montana …

Video of the Week: Oliver Twist (D’Banj) Cover By Ryan Parrott and The Rumours

I saw this as a thumbnail on the YouTube sidebar and snickered.

Then I watched it. Promptly shut me up.

Estelle did NOTHING on her rendition.

THIS, though… *replay*
